Recipe For Joy

With an almost three year old, it's not often that I get to sit down & enjoy a good book.  My reading these days consists of princesses and animals.  I've missed being able to curl up in bed with something to read & losing hours encompassed in another world.

Recipe For Joy: A Stepmom's story of finding faith, following love, and feeding a family allows you to become a part of Robin & Ken's world.  You are introduced to Robin & Ken before they even meet and from the prologue of the book, their story is tugging at your heart strings.

As an adult, Robin promises her sister that there are three things she would never do: she would never leave California to move back to Ohio, she would never get married and she would never join an organized religion.  Davis is the life lesson of never saying never ~ today Robin is loving life living in Ohio with her husband & stepchildren and has become a practicing Catholic.  In Recipe for Joy, she shares her stories of food, faith, and family life, and discovers that food is the language she can speak as the two families blend into one.

The stories in the book are divided into seven chapters named for the courses of a meal: the toast, appetizer, entree, and so forth; with each chapter concluding with a well-loved recipe that her family often shares together.  The chapters reveal how God allows food and faith to go hand in hand for Robin and how the kitchen becomes "my sanctuary, food and cooking were my daily prayers".  How God allows her to "set up my temple in the kitchen of our new family home and continued the only prayers I knew: the stirring,  bubbling, melding prayers of cooking".

The heart of this book lies in the meaning of family, parenthood, and a faith filled relationship with God.  And how food helps bring it all together.

So now, please join me in welcoming Robin Davis to the Test Kitchen as she prepares the family favorite recipes shared in Recipe For Joy
